Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really need cataract surgery now, or can it wait?
Not all cataracts need to be removed immediately. Dr. Tokuhara will evaluate how your cataracts are affecting your vision and quality of life before recommending surgery. If it can wait, we’ll tell you.
What lens implant is best for me?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. We’ll guide you through lens options like PanOptix Pro®, Vivity™, and Toric lenses based on your eye anatomy, lifestyle, and visual goals—with no upselling or pressure.
Does cataract surgery hurt?
Most patients feel no pain during the procedure. Anesthetic drops and light sedation make the process comfortable, and recovery is typically smooth and quick.
Will I still need glasses after surgery?
That depends on your lens choice and visual goals. Many patients reduce or eliminate their need for glasses, while others may still benefit from reading or distance correction. We’ll walk you through every option.
Can I have both eyes done at once?
Yes. Our CLEAR in a Day™ program allows for safe, same-day bilateral cataract surgery—ideal for patients traveling from out of town or seeking faster recovery.
I’ve already had cataract surgery somewhere else and still don’t see well. Can you help?
Yes. Dr. Tokuhara is nationally known for correcting difficult or unsatisfying outcomes through our R.E.F.O.C.U.S.™ program (Revision of Eye Function & Optical Clarity Using Surgery).
How long will I be at your office for my first visit?
Plan for 60–90 minutes. This allows time for dilation, diagnostic imaging, and a detailed consultation—personally performed by Dr. Tokuhara.
Do you offer second opinions?
Absolutely. Many patients come to us for clarity after being rushed or confused elsewhere. We’ll review your records, listen to your goals, and provide honest recommendations—even if the best decision is to wait.
Why don’t I see your name on every insurance list?
We don’t participate in networks that limit your options or compromise care. We work directly with Medicare and many PPOs. We also help patients file out-of-network claims for reimbursement when appropriate.
What makes Desert Vision Center different?
We’re the only physician-owned practice in the region with a kickback-free guarantee. That means no corporate influence, no quotas, and no commissions. Just ethical care from a surgeon who sees—and treats—every patient himself.
